Team & Campsite Info

Campsite information for Smokin' on the Rio, February 12–13, 2027. For the complete Official Rules, see the 2027 Rules.

Returning Teams

Teams that competed in 2026 may reserve the same campsite during Returning Team Registration: October 1, 2026 at 10AM through December 14, 2026 at 10PM. Campsites not reserved by then are released to the public.

New Teams

Open Registration runs December 15, 2026 at 10AM through February 11, 2027 at 10PM. New teams choose from available campsites on the map when registering online.

Your Campsite

  • Each team receives a campsite of approximately 40' x 40'. Some sites vary in size.
  • One (1) vehicle per campsite during the event.
  • Multiple pits are allowed. All pits, equipment, trailers, and team property must stay within your campsite boundaries.
  • Electricity and water are first come, first served. Bring plenty of extension cords and hoses — power, water, and amperage are not guaranteed at every site.
  • Generators are allowed. Propane burners may be used for beans only.
  • One (1) working fire extinguisher is required at each campsite.
  • No stakes, spikes, or anchors on paved surfaces. Personal canopies are allowed.

Porta-Cans & Tents

Private porta-cans and rental tents must be ordered through Smokin' on the Rio during registration — no outside porta-can or tent vendors. Add-ons open with your registration window and close February 11, 2027 at 10PM.

Check-In & Gates

  • Check-in: Thursday 12:00 PM – 7:00 PM and Friday 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM. All teams must be checked in by 6:00 PM Friday.
  • Gates lock Friday at 6:01 PM and stay locked until after the Awards Ceremony on Saturday. No vehicles may move inside the grounds during that time.

Youth Team Campsites

High School, FFA, and 4-H team campsites are pre-assigned in the designated area east of the main entrance. Youth teams are not required to stay overnight.

Leave Your Campsite Clean

Before awards, all trash must be placed in trash cans. No ashes or coals in trash cans or dumpsters, and none left at your campsite.
