Kids must be sponsored by a Smokin' on the Rio Cook-off team currently registered to compete in the event.  Please go through your team's head cook to register.

FUTURE OF BBQ Info

Are you between the ages of 6 and 17? Do you like to cook? Even if you’ve never cooked, do you want to give a try? If so, come and join us in a KIDS ONLY barbeque cooking contest. We will provide the pit, the charcoal, the competition meat and apron. You will need to enter by having your parents fill out the entry form. Entry fee is $50 for 1 person team.

• Each team cooking must have an adult check them in.
• Everyone will be cooking on the same type of pit and using the same type of charcoal.
• Each contestant will be provided two pork chops 1” thick. These chops may be seasoned in any way using your own seasoning/sauces. No garnish in turn-in box. This will be your competition meat.
• All ages check in Saturday at 3:30PM in the Champion Arena. All ages cook start time is 4:00PM. All ages turn in time is 4:20-4:30
• Only registered kids will be allowed in the Future of BBQ arena. Parents, family members, friends and all others will be required to be behind barriers. Only exception are SOTR Board Members, HEB employees, SOTR volunteers, and registered volunteers.

• All ages will check in is at 3:30PM and begin cooking at 4:00PM in the Champion Arena
• Turn in time for all ages is at 4:20Pm to 4:30PM
• Future BBQ Awards will prior to our main Cook-Off ceremony
• Important Rule: You must listen to the Head Judge during cooking because it is important that no one gets hurt. If you are asked to stop doing something, it is to keep you safe.
